Video: Braunston in Rutland comes alive at the 30th annual May fair event in aid of the village hall, church and Dove Cottage Day Hospice
A village fair celebrated its 30th anniversary in style.
Braunston was once again a hive of activity on Monday as the popular May fair swung into action.
May Queen Chloe Potter took centre stage during her coronation ahead of an impressive maypole dancing display from young people in the village.
The popular duck race was back and there were stalls aplenty for people to browse during the festivities.
Bands and musicians gave toe-tapping performances throughout the day on a purpose-built street stage. Acts included Oakham Sings, Triggers Broom, Main Street Band, Rebel Soul and Tourdion.
The first ever dog agility show was also a hit with families lining up to test their pets’ skills around the assault course.
Organiser Chris Lovelock was thrilled that the anniversary event lived up to its glowing reputation.
He said: “It’s the first year I’ve been involved in the fair and I’m really pleased with how it all went.
“The volunteers did a sterling job getting everything set up and the village was busy all through the day with a flow of events right the way through.”
The final figures are still being worked out but it looks like the fair attracted a record number of visitors and raised more money than ever before.
Proceeds will be split between the church, village hall and Dove Cottage Day Hospice in Ridlington.
Chris added: “The whole thing was a highlight for me, especially the fact that it didn’t rain!”
