Snowdrop Sunday at Uffington Church a blooming success
A village church served tea and cake at the weekend during an event to coincide with the flowering of snowdrops.
Snowdrop Sunday was held at St Michael and All Angels Church in Uffington on Sunday afternoon.
Residents and visitors were invited to view the flowers in the churchyard and Father Aran Beesley said the event had been a success.
"It is an annual event that is timed to coincide with the snowdrops in the churchyard, which are at their best," he said.
"It is an absolutely amazing sight to see and it gathers quite a crowd."
Tea and cakes were on sale while a series of children's craft activities took place.
Father Beesley, who joined St Michael and All Angels Church five months ago from Stamford, said the church had been "full of children" with a good crowd overall.
"The volunteers were all over the moon with the turnout," he said, adding the money raised from the event went towards the upkeep and maintenance of the church.
"Just keeping the heating going gets very expensive," he said.
"This is one of several fund raising events held over the year and we have loads of community events on the go."
He said Uffington was "culturally rich" and a beautiful place to visit.
"I'm sure the snowdrops will be around for the next couple of weeks for anyone wanting to see them," he said.
Snowdrops mark the first sign of spring, flowering ahead of daffodils and bluebells.
They emerge through frozen soil from January and are in bloom until late-February.
