A soldier’s silhouette stands outside Burghley House to remember those who died in the First World War.

The sculpture is part of the national There But Not There campaign which is marking the centenary of the end of the war .

Three workers from Burghley Estate lost their lives during the First World War. Gardeners Harry John Payne and Private Victor Barrett , both of the 7th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, and saw mill employee Private Herbert Miles, of the 6th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, all died in 1915.

During the war Burghley House became a convalescent hospital for injured soldiers.
