Somerby’s Stilton Cheese Inn scoops Melton CAMRA 2015 pub of the year award
There were celebrations recently at the Stilton Cheese Inn at Somerby when owners Jeff and Carol Evans were awarded the Melton CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) title of 2015 Pub of the Year.
A Melton CAMRA spokesman said: “Jeff and Carol have been in the pub trade for 40 years and have run the Stilton Cheese for over 20 of those, building it up into a popular venue with an extensive restaurant menu and a fine selection of six real ales and ciders.
“CAMRA appreciate that while the pub attracts diners from far and wide, the cosy bar run by their daughter, Lynne, is very popular with the locals when in need of a well-kept pint.
“The pub is really a family affair with Jeff and Carol’s other daughter, Claire, running the kitchen along with her husband.”
This year, for the first time, the Stilton Cheese is being judged alongside other pubs of the year from Rutland, Leicester, Northampton and the Vale of Belvoir in a regional contest that could lead to the East Midlands and ultimately the National Pub of the Year contests if they’re successful.
Six members from Melton CAMRA will be visiting all eight pubs involved over the next couple of weeks and the Stilton Cheese will be checked by teams from the other CAMRA groups.
