Nottingham Forest and Leicester Tigers stars back on the pitch at Uppingham for Matt Hampson Foundation fundraiser
Former Nottingham Forest and Leicester Tigers stars pulled on their boots once again to support former rugby player Matt Hampson.
The former professionals took to the pitch at Tod’s Piece, in Uppingham, for a walking football competition, hosted by Rutland Walking Football Club to raise money for the Matt Hampson Foundation.
The foundation, set up by the former Oakham and Leicester Tigers player, aims to inspire and support young people seriously injured through sport.
The hosts lined up against the Leicester Tigers Droglites, Nottingham Forest Legends, and Nottingham Forest Vets and made it through to the final where they were beaten by the Vets side.
“It was a privilege to be part of the event and to help raise money for such a worthwhile charity,” said Dave Johnson who played for the hosts.
Among the faces on show were former Dutch international Bryan Roy, former England rugby star Dean Richards, and ex-Forest striker Nigel Jemson.
Forest’s European Cup winning skipper John McGovern then presented a replica of the cup to the winners in The Falcon Hotel before the players enjoyed Sunday lunch there.
The event was organised by Falcon manager James Torbell, Tigers veteran Martin Whitcombe and former Forest goalkeeper Darren Heyes.
