Stamford in Bloom held its awards ceremony recently at Stamford Town Hall.

The event, which took place on Tuesday last week, the night before the East Midlands in Bloom results were announced, drew a large crowd of supporters, volunteers and entrants.

Stamford in Bloom organiser Ann Ellis said winners had received magnums of champagne which were sponsored by The George Hotel, while Easton Walled Gardens, Waterside Garden Centre and Stamford Arts Centre all gave vouchers.

Prizes were handed out by Chris Young, editor of the RHS magazine.

“The winners also received photographs of their entries,” said Ann, adding the ceremony had gone off well.

“It was really well attended and everyone seemed to have a good time,” she said. “A huge thank you to everyone involved.”

Stamford, which entered the East Midlands in Bloom competition for the first time in about 30 years, received a silver award.

Ann said: “We are delighted with our silver - it’s more than we could have possibly expected for our first attempt. We still have a long way to go but have a good base to work off looking to the future.”
