Three Stamford students entered the competition hosted at Borderville Sports Centre but Lucy walked away with first place in the classical make up category.

She had 45 minutes on the day to create a flawless 1940s look.

Lucy, 17, said: "The bridal category was really popular but I wanted to put myself forward for something a bit different and I really enjoyed it.

"I spent a lot of time practising to make sure the skin was flawless and the eye-liner was symmetrical. Everything has to be absolutely perfect."

Lucy, who lives in Wittering, says she was shocked to come out on top but is now looking forward to the national final in Blackpool on March 11. Entrants have to recreate exactly the same look which earned them a place in the competition.

Lucy said: "The competition will be a lot harder this time so I've got a lot of practice to do."

Lucy will finish her Level 3 hair and make-up course in June and has already secured a job at Natalie Dams Beauty in St Paul's Street, Stamford.

Owner Natalie Dams said: "When Lucy came in I just knew she would be perfect for the job. The salon team is like a family and she fitted straight in.

"She's just so good and she will go far."
