Shirin Fenn from Stamford carries out humanitarian aid in Nepal that was supported by the Rotary Club of Stamford
A dentist practice manager from Stamford has been carrying out humanitarian work thousands of miles away in Nepal.
Shirin Fenn, from JF Hawkins Dental Surgery helped re-build Jugal Basic School that was destroyed in the earthquake of 2015 along with five other volunteers from Stamford.
They were JJ Mugnier, Charlotte Smith, Neil Redman Davis, Mark Thomas and Dan Wade, who were all supported by the Rotary Club of Stamford.
The project, which was undertaken in April, involved building a two classroom school for between 70 to 100 pupils and a separate weatherproof toilet block.
The school lost almost everything in the earthquake and the Rotary of Club of Stamford helped provide benches, whiteboards, books, sports equipment, sound system, laptop, printer, stationary, games, exercise books, art equipment, toothbrushes, backpacks and uniforms for every child in the school.
This is not the first time Shirin has visited Nepal to help out.
In October 2016, Shirin was part of a team of 19 volunteers aged between 14 – 78 from a variety of backgrounds and who paid for their trip plus the cost of the building materials to build two family houses in the village of Sersung in Rasuwa.
These houses were home to three generations of the same family and were completed in a week.
Shirin’s fundraising from her friends and patients at her dental surgery was so successful that she was also able to provide £2,500 towards building materials for a school in Bhaktapur.
The Rotary Club of Stamford have also provided funding for a clinic in
Nepal.
