Stamford start-up mental health business Mind Data wins tech prize at StartUp Awards 2023 in Peterborough
A fledgling mental health business driven by its founder’s battle with suicidal deperession has been honoured at a regional startup awards.
Stamford-based Mind Data was named as the MedTech and HealthTech Startup of the Year at the East of England finals of the StartUp Awards 2023 in Peterborough.
Mind Data was founded here by Sean Ruane who created a digital platform aimed at transforming mental health services.
Sean’s mission to improve the mental health of one million people globally was inspired by his own challenges.
“After my personal battle with suicidal depression in 2016, I realised there was a need for a tool that didn't just react to problems as they arose, but instead proactively helped individuals navigate their mental health,” he explained.
“So, that's where I wanted to create Mind Data. It’s a platform that empowers individuals with the tools they need, such as digital journaling and mood tracking, and having inter-session insights shared directly with their counsellor to help facilitate deeper relationships.”
Sean’s vision was given a huge boost in April when the business was awarded £130,000 in ‘pre-seed’ investment, allowing it to grow.
The recent award was further proof for Sean of the value of Mind Data’s mission.
“The award was more than just recognition,” said Sean.
“It's a sign that we're making a difference, that our mission to help one million people improve their mental health is really resonating.
“It has fuelled our passion and determination to keep pushing boundaries in the mental health tech space.”
