North Luffenham tip in Rutland reopens to a "steady flow" but big increase in visitors expected over Bank Holiday weekend

The tip at North Luffenham reopened yesterday (Tuesday, May 19) to a steady flow of visitors.

Rutland County Council reopened the tip with social distancing measures in place and road closures so traffic could safely queue.

Cabinet member for waste and environment Gordon Brown (Con) said queues were "manageable" but said a "big increase in visitors" was expected over the weekend. He asked people to only visit if they had waste they could not safely store at home.

He said: "We saw a steady flow of visitors to North Luffenham Household Waste and Recycling Centre throughout yesterday. Queues were manageable and we’re grateful to everyone who waited patiently to use the site. We would also like to thank parish councils and local residents for their understanding, as well as our contractors who are working to manage the site operations and traffic.

"We expect the site to get busier throughout this week and predict a big increase in visitors over the bank holiday weekend. We would again ask that people only visit the site if they have waste that can’t be stored safely at home. If you do need to visit, please separate and sort your waste before travelling. This will help reduce the length of time you need to spend unloading."

The tip is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm. Only four vehicles are allowed at a time.

Lincolnshire County Council has also reopened tips, including the one in Bourne
