Street markets a touch away with new app service
Street markets in Bourne and Market Deeping could be just a click away as a new online service boosts fortunes of market traders.
Technology expert Leon Mitchell Smith has now designed a new Street Markets proto-type application (app) for smart phones and tablets to link market traders and customers across the district.
Leon has previously designed apps for household names, including the NHS, Bet 365, The Nottingham Building Society and Vodafone.
He said: “The market should be the central hub of every market town, encouraging local entrepeneurs, traders and cultures to come together .
“The problem is that market traders are working at a disadvantage as lots of today’s commerce is online.”
The new app has the potential a deliver an improved 24/7 connection between buyers and sellers to drive sales, advertise and create a personal channel for promotion.

Using this technology, customers will now be able to view goods of any market within a 25-mile radius, with live updates of trader’s stock.
Leon said: “Street Market wants to readdress the balance so that market traders can complement, compete and even surpass this current trend.”
“Potential shoppers can view and search the items at anytime during the week enabling them to store their desired items and make time to visit on market day, driving football into the market and improving a town’s prosperity.”
Traders will be able to upload pictures of their goods and advertise them on the app, allowing customers to be aware of the price, location and quanitity of the goods.
The app will be initially free but would eventually carry a monthly or yearly fee, although it has the potential to be used by traders to promote shopping vouchers and their own offers locally.
