Langtoft homes plan receives 102 letters of objection
Villagers have been expressing their opposition to a housing development on greenfield land at Langtoft.
Some 102 letters of opposition have been sent to South Kesteven District Council about a plan for 37 homes on a 3ha site at East End.
Council officers have also recommended refusal, when the application from Pauline Lighton of Northborough, Peterborough, comes before the council’s planning committee on Wednesday.
Langtoft Parish Council also opposes the scheme.
Parish clerk Julian Tatham said: “There’s strong feelings against this proposal. The parish council reflects that view.”
The planning committee will determine the application as the scheme is considered a major development.
It consists of 37 homes, consisting of a mix of two, three and four-bed detached, semi-detached and short-terraced houses.
A report by council planning officers says the scheme faces issues such as the impact on the character of the area, residential amenity, impact on heritage assets and highways issues.
The letters of opposition said Langtoft already had enough planned housing and the village lacked the schools, health and other facilities to cope with extra people.
However, the three letters of support said the homes would bring affordable housing; there was a need for homes; and they would be well-designed.
The application to SKDC also said the scheme would deliver ‘much needed housing’ to the village.
However, recommending councillors refuse the scheme, planning officers commented: “There is a fundamental policy objection to development at this location and identified harm to the character and appearance of the area and designated heritage
assets.
“The application also lacks information on a number of matters fundamental to the determination of the application.
“The public benefits of 37 dwellings (including eight affordable) at this location do not outweigh the harm caused and it is recommended that planning permission is refused.”
