Family entertainment in Oakham was a big hit

A family fun day with fairground rides, a giant sandpit and Punch and Judy show was staged at Cutts Close in Oakham on Sunday.

Oakham Town Council is hosting a series of events in the park to encourage people to get out and about in the community.

The giant sandpit was a big hit with youngsters on the day, thanks to Hanson Cement at Ketton which donated the sand for free.

Oakham mayor David Romney said: "We want to encourage families to come to the park and use its facilities.

"The event was very well attended and everyone had a really good day."

This Sunday (August 25) there will be a mini music festival in Cutts Close between midday and 8pm with three band performances, a bar and food stalls.

Deputy mayor Sally-Anne Wadsworth said: “ We are trialling the mini music fest after requests from residents to set up a longer event to attract people of all ages.

"Our Sunday concert events are always popular and we are hoping to build on this to have really exciting longer day for everyone with music ranging from the 60s to a return of the band Funked Up who wowed the crowds earlier this year.”

On Sunday, September 1 there will be a Songs of Praise event in the park at 2.30pm.
