Stamford Pantomime Players calls for young people to join their next production of Treasure Island which will be staged at Stamford Corn Exchange Theatre

Children are being offered an amazing opportunity to be part of a show tailored to meet their individual ambitions.

Rehearsals get under way on Friday for the Stamford Pantomime Players' summer production of Treasure Island.

The show is open to young people aged eight to 18 with no auditions and no experience necessary.

Director Vikki Fallow-Norton insists everyone is welcome.

She said: "It's a really friendly environment and all about encouraging people to have a go."

The basic script was written by Vikki's husband Phil, who also used to perform with the Stamford Pantomime Players.

Once she meets the cast and gets to know what they want to do, Vikki will re-write it to incorporate everyone into the roles they would like to do.

She said: "We write the show for the group. Everyone will sing, everyone will dance and everyone who wants a speaking part will get one."

The first rehearsal takes place tonight at Barn Hill Methodist Church, Stamford, from 7-9pm. They will then run each week in term time until the performances at Stamford Corn Exchange Theatre on July 5 and 6.

Vikki said: "Lots of the children will never have done anything like this before. For them to get to perform in a professional 300-seat theatre is fantastic.

"It's a whole new level of experience for them."

The show will also offer the opportunity for youngsters to get involved backstage if they prefer and is likely to include UV puppetry.
