Race for Life returns to Burghley Park in Stamford
Runners, walkers and even four-legged competitors put their best feet forward during this year's Race for Life at Burghley Park.
Hundreds of people made their way through the parkland on Sunday to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
With a choice of 3km, 5km or 10km routes, there was something to suit everyone.
There was even a Pretty Muddle obstacle course to tackle, which definitely lived up to its name as competitors emerged covered from head to toe in mud.
Among the big groups taking part was the Melton Mowbray based Rock Choir and a team from Tesco, which sponsors the event.
Charity events manager Natalie Corbett said: “We’re incredibly grateful to the 1,400-odd people who took part in Race for Life Stamford.
“They turned Burghley Park into a sea of pink and their moving efforts in celebrating those who have survived cancer and remembering loved ones lost to the disease raised £38,000.
“Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, raises funds for world-class research to help beat 200 types of cancer.
“Now we’re asking everyone to return the money they’ve raised as soon as possible. Funds raised, whether it’s £10 or £100, will help scientists find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, and ultimately save more lives.”
Figures show that 29,400 people are diagnosed with cancer in the East Midlands each year and one in two people in the UK born after 1960 will get cancer in their lifetime.
The event in Stamford was cancelled last year because of the pandemic.
