Curry Hut in High Street, Market Deeping

A takeaway's food hygiene rating has increased after inspectors said 'urgent improvements' were needed.

Curry Hut in High Street, Market Deeping received a zero-star rating following an inspection by the Food Standards Agency on July 21.

According to the food hygiene regulator, at the time of the inspection the correct systems or checks were not in place to ensure food is safe to eat and that staff know about food safety. The cleanliness and condition of facilities were also deemed to need 'major improvements'.

Owner of Curry Hut Mohammed Yaseen said the low rating was due to the grills being out on the day of inspection, which was during the hot weather.

He added that he understands that this was 'a bit of an issue'.

He requested a reinspection and this week inspectors bumped the business up to a three-star rating which is deemed 'generally satisfactory'.

Mohammed said that the inspectors were 'very pleased' and he believes they would have given him four or five stars if it wasn't for 'structural work' needing to be done to the old building.

"We have made a lot of improvements and the inspectors had no concerns whatsoever.

"I spoke to the health inspector and they were very pleased with everything," he said, adding the business will need to be built back up from scratch.

Mohammed alleges that since the previous rating was announced he has received threats, which have been reported to the police, and people have been making fake orders.

He urged people to put their trust in his business, which has been running for 23 years, and thanked his loyal customers.

Mohammed said: "A lot of people don't understand that there are categories and they would have closed us down if it was that bad.

"We have done the necessary improvements and this is an ongoing situation."
