Hawthorpe teenager banned from driving after crash in Uffington Road, Stamford
A teenager who crashed his car having “drunk a bit of everything” has been banned from the roads.
Charlie Hindmarch’s Volkswagen Golf hit the central reservation near a roundabout in Uffington Road, Stamford at about 1am on March 25, magistrates in Boston were told yesterday (Wednesday, May 24).
Hindmarch, 18, told police: “I’m not going to lie, I’ve had a bit to drink.”
He was arrested after failing a roadside test, blowing 72 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.
In an interview, Hindmarch, of Irnham Road, Hawthorpe, told police that he’d “drunk a bit of everything” that night but had stopped 90 minutes before driving.
He had mistaken the roundabout for a junction, he said.
In court, Hindmarch pleaded guilty to drink-driving.
He said in mitigation: “It was a mistake, I don’t know why I did it.”
The defendant was banned for 20 months and offered a drink-driver rehabilitation course to reduce the length of the sentence.
A £184 fine, £85 costs and £74 victim surcharge were also imposed.
