Teacher from William Hildyard Primary School in Market Deeping praises pupils for their resilience as teachers face the most challenging time in their careers

A teacher has praised her pupils for the way they have adapted to life under lockdown.

Most of the staff at William Hildyard Primary School in Market Deeping are working one day a week to care for the children of key workers.

Ninety-five per cent of their pupils are staying at home.

Foundation teacher Emma Parr said: "The children appear to be having a lovely time in these unusual circumstances and show great resilience under these dramatic changes to their regular school days.

"We would like to thank our families for their continued support and applaud all of the key workers working together in a national effort to fight the coronavirus."

At school the children have been working on a range of projects including a rainbow of hope which is on display for the public to see. They also do PE with Joe Wicks on YouTube.

Emma said: "We have received many thanks from the public for injecting positivity and joy into their lives as they pass by and see the rainbow."

Teachers are also providing work for children to do at home including maths, English and topics from the curriculum.

Emma said: "All teaching staff and support staff have pulled together to get through what will possibly be the most challenging time in our careers.

"We had to be robust in our approach to safeguarding everyone against the spread of coronavirus.

"Staff are busy working from home, supporting one another and regularly staying in touch, keeping spirits high."

"We have been incredibly lucky to have such wonderfully supportive families who we wish to thank for their ongoing support at this very difficult time."

The rainbow has become a symbol of hope during the coronavirus pandemic.

Many households are displaying rainbows for children to spot during their daily exercise.

This rainbow of hope has been installed outside a house in Ermine Way, Stamford, for people to leave messages.
