Three kings made a special visit to Deeping St James on Sunday to celebrate the international Christian event, Epiphany.

Biblical event, Epiphany, otherwise known as Three Kings Day celebrates the three kings’ visit to Baby Jesus shortly after his birth and Jesus’ baptism.

The Priory Church in Deeping St. James celebrated the occasion on Sunday by creating their own service and re-enactment of the time when the three kings visited baby Jesus in the stable.

The Reverend Mark Thompson led the service at the church and helped to arrange the re-enactment of Epiphany in the church gardens.

During the re-enactment the three adult kings played by John Worthington, Philip Astle and Barry Fisher, along with the three younger kings followed the ‘star’ to the stable that had been created in the old vicarage’s stable in the church gardens.

Inside the stable the kings found Mary and Joseph, played by Tanwen and Ted Fisk, with Baby Jesus, who the kings presented their gifts too.

Within the stable were two real donkeys that had been loaned especially for the event by Jan and Steve Fisk.

More than 50 members of the congregation joined in the celebration and followed the Three Kings to the stable, to marvel at the ‘new born king’.

As well as Epiphany being celebrated as a religious event is also marks the end of the Christmas and New Year season for most people in the UK.
