HSBC bank branch to close in North Street, Bourne

The bank HSBC has announced it is closing its Bourne branch, putting people's jobs 'at risk'.

The announcement today (Tuesday, February 25) affects 27 branches of HSBC nationwide.

At 10 of these it is anticipated that people will be made redundant, while the other 17 branches will see staff relocated to other sites.

According to the bank, nine out of 10 customers use telephone, internet or smartphone banking and 99 per cent of cash withdrawals are made at an ATM.

Bourne has lost its Barclays and NatWest branches in the past three years.

However, Lloyds announced in January that it is keeping its town branch open.

No date has been made public for the closure of the HSBC branch, which is located at 3 North Street, Bourne.
