A group of travellers left behind bags of rubbish after they were ordered to leave a town centre car park.

Several caravans turned up in Church Street car park in Oakham on Sunday afternoon.

A Leicestershire Police spokesman said officers and Rutland County Council politely asked the group to leave, but they refused. As a result they were served with a Section 61 order under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act which required them to leave by this afternoon (Tuesday).

The travellers left several hours after they were served with the notice. After their departure several people reported bags of rubbish bearing logos from neighbouring local authorities had been left by the group.
