Police step up patrols following arrival of travellers in Deeping Gate

Police officers have stepped up patrols around Deeping Gate following the arrival of travellers.

At least four caravans have set up camp along the roadside.

Officers from Lincolnshire Police are on the scene and working with the travellers and Peterborough City Council.

A spokesman for Stamford, Bourne and Deeping Policing Team said: "A notice directing them to leave is to be served by the Peterborough City Council tomorrow and we are making dedicated patrols in order to monitor the situation.

"We have had only one call so far that we are connecting to this site and are currently looking into the circumstances."

Travellers went on a four-day crime spree around The Deepings in July 2019.

Two months later Lincolnshire Police made a public apology for the way it handled the situation and vowed lessons had been learnt for how to handle problems with travellers in the future.

To report an incident call 101 or 999 if a crime is in progress.
