Nottingham Trent University pays tribute to student from Stamford who died in crash at Gonalston, Nottinghamshire




Staff at a university have said they were saddened to hear of the death of a further education student.

Nottingham Trent University said its immediate thoughts were with the family and friends of Brackenhurst Campus student Jake Hankins.

A Nottingham Trent University spokesman said: “We were saddened to learn that one of our further education students, Jake Hankins, died following a crash last week and our immediate thoughts are with Jake’s family and friends.

"We are currently liaising with the police and supporting our students and colleagues.”

Jake, 17, from Stamford and his friend Harvey Holehouse, 19, of Woodborough, were in one of two cars involved in a crash which happened in Southwell Road, Gonalston, at about 10.45pm on Thursday last week.

Both died at the scene and their families have requested their privacy is respected at this difficult time.

Two other people were taken to Queen’s Medical Centre with potentially life-threatening injuries following the crash.

The A612 Southwell Road was closed between its junctions with Gonalston Road, Gonalston, and Beck Street, Thurgarton, while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 801 of September 22, 2022.
