UPDATE: Police confirm traveller group has left Market Deeping
A group of travellers who had set up camp on Lincolnshire County Council (LCC) owned land outside Market Deeping have left.
The group departed before the council launched legal action to have them removed.
Community policing inspector for Stamford, Bourne and the Deepings, Inspector Ian Martin, said they had left overnight.
“I would like to thank the public for their patience and vigilance during the last few days, with reports of incidents being called to us so we can provide a presence and deal with issues as best as possible," said Inspector Martin.
"We have been working in partnership with SKDC and LCC who have the lead with regards to these matters legally, and we will support to the best of our ability.”
LCC officials paid a visit to the group on Wednesday after they had parked their caravans and vehicles alongside Cross Road on the outskirts of Market Deeping.
The travellers had initially set up on public land in Tattershall Drive on August 16.
The matter was quickly reported to South Kesteven District Council officials and Lincolnshire Police.
The group was issued with a notice to move on August 17 and left the site two days later for Cross Road.
The Mercury joined Inspector Martin on a visit to the site on Wednesday.
Most of the group were said to be at a wedding and those that were there said they would be vacating the land on Thursday, August 23.
