Driver escapes with minor injuries after car rolls on King Street in Baston

The driver of a vehicle that crashed on King Street in Baston on Tuesday morning (January 22) was lucky to escape with minor injuries after her vehicle rolled.

Community Policing Inspector for Stamford, Bourne and The Deepings, Inspector Ian Martin, said the incident involved one vehicle "where the female occupant has suffered what appears to be minor injuries".

"In this case the vehicle has rolled over, which reminds us of the importance of wearing a seatbelt," he said.

"The road is notoriously icy, where the shading of the trees does not allow the morning sun to clear the frost and ice.

"If you do drive on that road then please take extra care."

King Street was earlier blocked following the single vehicle crash which was reported to have occurred at around 8am.

Emergency services including police and the air ambulance were dispatched to the scene.

The road was blocked between Baston and Greatford Road.

Eyewitness Robin Jones said it is believed the car skidded on black ice before upending itself.

Robin said the accident happened at the junction of King Street and Greatford Road at around 8am.

"The front end of the lady’s car was all but completely smashed in."

Robin said other motorists had stopped to give assistance and the driver was covered in blankets as she lay on the grass triangle of the junction before police and medics arrived about 30 minutes later.
