Star Wars Day hosted at Deepings Library on May the Fourth

A Star Wars Day hosted at Deepings Library on Saturday was the “best yet” according to organisers.

The library added more activities to its third annual Star Wars event held to coincide with May 4 after fans of the hit film series coined the term ‘May the fourth be with you’.

A Jedi training school was among activities at the community-run library in High Street, Market Deeping.

A friendly Stormtrooper was also there, proving a hit with visitors.

There was also a photobooth where children could have their photo taken with the Dark Lord, as well as cakes and a tombola.

Children could also make their own lightsaber and there was also a Star Wars trail.

Library coordinator Louisa Crowson said: “Over 500 people visited us on the day. Some were regular families who support all our events and some who just happened to drive by and wonder what was going on so took a look. They had a great time, joined the library and took their first book home.

“It’s all about having fun and showing people that libraries can dare to be different and make it a place where young or old can come and while away a few hours, or attend a special fun day and take some books home.

“One father asked if we could do this every week!”

The event followed on from a successful Harry Potter themed day in February and Louisa has plans for a third big day later in the year.

The library also offers stay and play sessions, knit and natter, senior book group, book babies, crafternoons, storytime, rhyme time and Scrabble club every week. In June, they will also be adding a community jigsaw afternoon .
