Rutland MP says in her New Year's message that vaccinations are path forward into 2021

Alicia Kearns (Con) - MP for Rutland and Melton - pens her New Year's message.

It’s been an extremely difficult year for all of us, and on this New Year’s Eve, I want to thank everyone for working so hard to keep each other safe. I have been heartened by the extraordinary sense of community spirit demonstrated by residents throughout the pandemic.

We are very lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the country, but it truly is our communities that make us great. Our nation has many people to thank, and I send my heartfelt gratitude to all those who have worked tirelessly, in particular our healthcare and emergency workers, and indeed all keyworkers who have gone above and beyond throughout this year.

I know too that many businesses have been hit extremely hard by this pandemic. While Government support has been strong, that doesn’t take away the fact that so many, large and small, have been hurting. Thank you for the sacrifices you have made to your own prosperity to keep people safe.

As we enter the New Year, I take comfort from the fact the UK has now vaccinated well over 500,000 people, and in Rutland and Melton we started vaccinating residents within two weeks of the first UK vaccination. Let us take solace that there is a path forward and, together, we can have a happier, healthier and more prosperous 2021.

One in which I look forward to meeting many more of you. From my family to yours, Happy New Year.
