Osprey Charging Limited submits planning application for electric vehicle charging site off Tinwell Road, Stamford near A1

A field near the A1 could be turned into an electric vehicle charging site.

Osprey Charging Limited has applied to South Kesteven District Council to create a charging site on greenfield land south of Tinwell Road, Stamford.

This would include 16 high powered chargers with an average re-charge time of 35 minutes. According to the applicant, this is ‘significantly faster than the majority of chargers found in public car parks’.

The London-based company recognises that switching to electric requires more waiting around than users of fuel-powered cars face.

“Given the extended dwell time, when compared to petrol and diesel vehicles, the location we suggest needs to be pleasant, comfortable and above all safe,” they said in the application.

“While a petrol forecourt’s loud noise level and often busy frontage is fine for customers staying for less than five minutes, a lower noise level and a cleaner environment is ideal for those charging electric vehicles.

“Moreover, we are conscious of the aesthetic value of Stamford as a town and its surrounding boroughs and therefore will ensure that the site is in keeping with such landscapes.”

Currently there is only one rapid charging site for every 27,500 people in Rutland and South Kesteven.

Lincolnshire County Council has announced that more than 100 electric vehicle chargers will be installed across the county, including in Stamford. Eight of these will be rapid charging points.

The application states that the site pn the outskirts of Stamford would be used by both town residents and people travelling through the area, on roads such as the A1.

Access to the new site would be from the A6121 Tinwell Road via the existing road down to South View Business Centre and Tinwell Pumping Station.

The road would be widened to six metres to allow for two-way traffic.

A spokesperson for Osprey said: “Creation of rapid charging hubs encourages adoption of electric vehicles, lowering local tailpipe emissions and therefore improving air quality, as well as supporting decarbonisation of transport more widely in the UK.”
