Video: Bourne man Toby Gelsthorpe completes scotter ride from Liverpool to Hull dressed as a Smurf
Royal Marine Toby Gelsthorpe successfully scooted from Liverpool to Hull dressed as a Smurf.
The stunt was a fundraising mission for Cancer Research UK and has raised just under £1,000 so far.
Toby, of Gladstone Street, Bourne, set off from Liverpool on Saturday morning and scooted into Hull 32 hours later after travelling 135 miles on no sleep.
The 26-year-old said: “It was pretty fun. It was tough trying to find the balance of how many pushes to do on each leg, but the support I got on the way was great.
“I looked absolutely ridiculous but that was the idea to get more interest.”
The toughest part was a 480 metre climb in Saddleworth and scooting through Salford in the dark. Toby was approached by a young gang and feared the worst but was surprised and relieved when the group handed him some cash.
He has now turned his thoughts to future fundraising events and might attempt to scale the height of Mount Everest on a climbing wall with friends.
