Langtoft One Stop which also contains the Post Office is to close at the end of August

Villagers have reacted with dismay as their village shop and post office is set to close.

The One Stop shop on West End in Langtoft, which contains the Post Office, will be closing on Wednesday, August 31.

The shop owner declined to comment and the Post Office said the postmaster had ‘resigned’ but did not give any further details.

Ian Rose, 69, of Langtoft, said: “It will be sorely missed by a lot of people in the village.

“It’s a very useful shop because people can just go in for their papers, milk, bread and other everyday items.

“The closest one is in Baston but not everyone can get to that.

“There’s nobody to take it over.

“It’s just going to shut down at the end of August.

“I use it to get my paper and things like bread and we don’t really want to go to Market Deeping or Bourne just to pick up these everyday items.”

A Post Office spokesman, said: “We can confirm that Langtoft Post Office is due to close temporarily at the end of August following the resignation of the Postmaster and the withdrawal of the premises, that we do not own, for Post Office use.

“The exact date is being finalised.

“We understand how important a Post Office is to a community and we would like to reassure customers that we are working hard to restore a Post Office in that area.

“Alternative branches in the area include Baston and Market Deeping.

“Any retailer or small business owner interested in running the Post Office and incorporating it into their business should email ND.enquiries@postoffice.co.uk or phone 0333 345 5560, then select option 2.”

Lincolnshire county councillor, Coun Barry Dobson (Con-Deepings East and Langtoft), said: “It’s a shame because it’s a well-used shop.

“A lot of cars stop there.”
