Warning over fraud involving PPI reward money
Police are warning members of the public to be aware of a new type of fraud.
A person recently received a call from a fraudster claiming to be from the Financial Conduct Authority, informing them that they had a large amount of PPI reward money to claim.
The reward money would be handed to them in person in exchange for a £150 handling fee, paid in the form of a gift card.
No money was exchanged or lost in this incident.
"We are asking residents to make their elderly or vulnerable family members aware and should they get any calls from someone claiming to offer such a reward, be careful and report anything suspicious to 101, or 999 in an emergency," said a police spokesman.
