Uppingham Community College pupils to return to school after fire put plans on hold
Pupils are set to return to their school site from next Monday (September 21) after a serious fire put initial plans on hold.
The school's phased return will see different year groups in each day before everyone is on site next Friday.
Ben Solly, headteacher, said: “It is really important that we ensure our Covid-safe arrangements are adhered to by all pupils and staff so we are gradually re-introducing one year group at a time.
"This plan is however, re-introducing pupils quicker than we had originally planned, which is testament to the outstanding work completed by Uppingham Community College staff to recover so swiftly from the fire.”
Temporary classrooms have been put in place at the school to hold the humanities team and are in the process of being fully installed.
Mr Solly said that these classrooms will make movement around the school site safer as they no longer have to access the narrow stairwell in the three-storey block.
Due to losing a significant number of car parking spaces to accommodate the temporary classrooms, pupils aren’t able to be collected by car from the school car park until after 3.30pm.
Mr Solly said: “We continue to be amazed by the wonderful messages of support, kindness and generosity from the local community.
"We are starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel it won’t be too long before we can re-open.
"I cannot wait to welcome our pupils back to our school.”
