Philippa Massey talk on a history of two houses - 7.30pm, Stamford Arts Centre. Philippa compares two very different Stamford houses, 9 and 10 Maiden Lane and Rock Cottage, later rebuilt as Rock House. One is on a tightly packed street in the middle of town, and the other stands in what was its own substantial grounds on the outskirts. The Deepings Flower Club demonstration by Barbara Collins entitled ‘A Bright New Year’ - 7pm for 7.30pm, Priory Church Hall, Deeping St James. Tea and coffee, raffle of all the arrangements. Visitors welcome at £6 and membership for 2023 is £35.
West Deeping Heritage Group - 7pm for 7.30pm, West Deeping Village Hall. £3 admission. Jim Irvine – New Discoveries at the Rutland Mosaic site. Following the discovery of ‘the most exciting Roman mosaic in the UK in the last century’ further excavation in 2022 has revealed a ‘bathing suite’ the size of a small barn. Archaeologists said they were “gobsmacked” to find more lavish buildings and another mosaic when they returned. Jim will be sharing the story and pictures of this discovery.
