MY.Lab Hair and Beauty opens in Stamford after success of Bourne salon

Successful salon owners have ticked off one of their business goals as they open a new branch.

MY.Lab Hair and Beauty was opened today (Monday) in St John's Street, Stamford by Aaron Jesson and his partner April Yardley.

This is the second branch after the couple launched MY.Lab in North Street, Bourne in the summer of 2020.

Aaron described the Bourne salon as being a 'whirlwind of success' which has given them the opportunity to expand the business to the nearby town.

Aaron, 42, said: "We have had a positive response. You get the odd negative comment but mostly everyone has been really happy about it.

"The location is close to car parks and footfall walking by.

"We always said that Stamford is an ideal location."

Since getting the keys at the end of December, it has been a hectic few months refurbishing the salon.

Despite the building having been previously home to a salon, Oliver Lee, transforming it was just as much work as the Bourne branch which was a Rutland Sports shop.

"It has been stressful," said Aaron, who ventured into the hairdressing sector to support his partner's passion.

"We had some set backs with materials but we have a great crew of tradespeople, who we call the 'A team', and my dad Maurice who has been integral."

The Bourne salon is colourful and has bright LED lighting but in Stamford a different approach was taken when designing it.

The pair took time designing it to ensure it fits with their branding of bright colours but also with Stamford's more conservative aesthetic.

April, who has been a hairdresser for 15 years, struggled to picture what it would look like at first. She said: "It was like walking into a derelict building

"I knew how I wanted it to look.

"We have taken little bits from the Bourne salon but have also done it completely differently."

The 30-year-old hairdresser, who has recently been made a GHD educator, helps to train staff as well as sending them on courses.

She is looking to use a room at the Stamford salon for 'colour education' and classes.

As well as six hairdressers MY.Lab has an aesthetics practitioner and a nail technician.

Appointments can be booked on 01780 591513 or by messaging the MY.Lab team on social media.

April said: "We are an all round salon. We do gents, elderly people, women.

"Anyone is welcome."
