Wittering looks set to be new home for 'dogfest' after Labrador Rescue event
A new venue for a long-running dog show delivered the promised ‘ultimate’ dogs party.
Labrador Rescue South East and Central held their 23rd annual ‘dogfest’ at Wittering Playing Fields instead of the usual Uxbridge.
The event went so well, Wittering could well be its future home.
Fundraiser and volunteer Gillian Amos said: “We decided to try it here for the first time and it was a great success.”
Some £700 in entry feels alone was raised for the charity, with the grand total around £3,000, helped by fine weather.
Gillian continued: “There were hundreds of dogs and about 400-500 people watching thought there were so many, it was hard to count them all. Certainly, the show was well turned out.”
There were four different rings, each hosting a variety of classes. There were also many trade, gift and craft stalls, plus food stalls and demonstrations.
A ‘scurry, was run by the United Retrievers Club of Lincolnshire.
The operator in the agility ring was Nikki Thurston of On the Ball Dog Care and Training of Bourne.
The operator of the fun show ring was Lynn Bradbury of Dogs in Mind.
The main show ring was run by Lorraine Tooth of Ludlaw Labradors with Suzy Wilde helping.
Gillian, who co-organised the show with Maxine Woodley, wanted to thank volunteers and sponsors, plus the Second Wittering Scouts group, who provided tea and cakes.
She added: “We sold out of cakes. It was a lot of hard work but well worth it for the charity.”
