The first McDonald's in Rutland could be ready to open in the autumn after construction work started in Oakham this week

Construction workers have started to prepare a site in Oakham ready to build a new McDonald's restaurant.

Work started at the junction of Lands' End Way and Hackamore Way on Monday (June 29) after planning permission for the business was granted in January.

A spokesman for McDonald's said the branch will open in the autumn but could not give an exact date.

Rutland is currently the only county in the UK not to have a branch of the fast-food chain.

The new restaurant will include a drive-thru and is expected to create up to 65 jobs.
