Outrage as yobs damage playhouse and leave broken glass under swings at Hall Close playground in Ketton

Mindless yobs have damaged a playhouse and left broken glass under the swings in a village playground.

Members of Ketton Parish Council discovered the vandalism at the Hall Close site on Monday evening (June 8).

Rutland Police are now appealing for anyone with information on who is responsible to contact them.

Council chairman Coun Sinclair Rogers said: “There’s been a big outcry about this and concern that children will not be able to use the area for a while.

“There was broken glass on the ground underneath the swings where bottles have been deliberately smashed.

“We think it’s local people and are all very disappointed and upset that a children’s area could be mistreated in this way.”

He said that minor vandalism had occurred in the past, but glass had never been scattered around before.

The parish council, which is responsible for the playground, is due to discuss the matter at its next meeting on Wednesday (June 17).

“We’ll get it repaired as quickly as possible,” said Coun Rogers. “We just hope that once it’s fixed it will stay that way.”

News of the vandalism has sparked anger on social media.

One woman wrote on the Ketton News Facebook page: “So saddened to read this, vandalism is just mindless!”

And another added: “Where's the sense it that! Hooligans! Should be ashamed of themselves!”

Many have offered to help repair or paint the playground.

Another resident wrote: “That's a shame they have no idea how much happiness the park brings to children especially when we can finally let them play on the equipment again.”

And a man posted: “Idiots - shameful and a disgrace to their parents, who should be held to some responsibility if the kids/youths are caught.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or email PC Peter Icke at peter.icke@leicestershire.pnn.police.uk
