Ancient woodland near Thurlby goes on the market

A rare chance to become the proud owner of ancient woodland has come onto the market near Thurlby.

Offers are being invited through Bourne land agents Stephen Knipe and Co for the freehold of 12.28 acres of Park Wood, to the west of the old A15, with a guide price of £75,000.

"The last time I sold woodland was 35 years ago," said founder Stephen Knipe.

"We have already had a lot of interest - we have been pleasantly surprised."

The wood is mostly made up of ash and English oak trees, and also features crab apple, maple, hazel and pear trees, along with a seasonal carpet of native bluebells in springtime.

Park Wood is designated a Local Wildlife Site in South Kesteven District Council’s local plan, and has associated biodiversity and geodiversity protection.

"Development involving the loss of the woodland would be resisted unless there were wholly exceptional circumstances and a suitable compensation strategy was in place in accordance with local and national planning policy, said an SKDC spokesman.
