Stamford and Rutland Table Tennis League round-up

Following a single win during their first season in the Stamford and Rutland League, Tallington Outsiders celebrated a 22-15 success against Braunston A this week.

All three of the Outsiders’ team won more ends than they conceded with Adam Mezzatesta earning the player of the match award with eight points earned. Andrew Hay won seven and Richard Matthews six to guarantee the overall win.

For Braunston, Bill Seese played well to pick up eight points with Basil Bagshaw and Frank Had also scoring for the visitors.

Chase Burgess of Langtoft has enjoyed a successful beginning to the season.

Langtoft picked up their second maximum of the fledgling season with a 30-1 win against Swayfield.

Tim Small won his first end against Chase Burgess, but that was the only success for the league's newcomers who have faced tough opposition in their opening three matches.

Steve Smith, Denise Jacobi and Burgess - still fresh from his medal-winning performances for Great Britain at the Racketlon World Championships in Rotterdam - will be strong contenders for a Tier One finish this season.

Harringworth earned their third win of the season with a 29-6 success at Bourne B.

Colin Belcher and Dave Harvey did not drop an end while Dave Reed also earned eight points.

Bourne's Chris Gardiner began the evening with a fine 3-2 win against Reed while Ziggy Poberezniuk and Dariusz Kwiatkowski also contributed to their team's score.

Stamford Free Church carded their first win of the season with a 26-11 scoreline against two-man Tallington.

Adrian Bradley and Damon Vallero each earned six points for the Churchmen and Stuart Menzies enjoyed a close 3-2 win in the doubles with Bradley.

Richard Allen and Kevin Toomey both won a singles match and the five-set doubles reflected the closeness and competitiveness of several of the matches during the evening.

By utilising the 'guest' rule, MTTG fielded three against Braunston B.

Andrew Goodacre and Leigh Ware - another who represented Great Britain at the Racketlon World Championships - both won their singles matches without dropping an end and they will be hoping to pressure the Tier One places as the season develops.
