New Bourne Town manager Nathan Arnold highlights achievements of former Lincoln City bosses Danny and Nicky Cowley
New joint Bourne boss Nathan Arnold will use the memorable journey of two of his former managers to help forge the next step in his footballing career path.
Arnold has been appointed co-manager of the United Counties League Division One club alongside current boss Simon Daws.
The 33-year-old has enjoyed a stellar playing career which featured successful spells with Lincoln City, Grimsby Town, Cambridge United and Alfreton.
He scored a memorable injury-time winner for Lincoln in their FA Cup replay win over Ipswich Town in 2017 which helped set the Imps on their way to a quarter-final clash with Arsenal.
And it is the then-joint Imps management team of Danny and Nicky Cowley who Arnold has aspirations of following in their footsteps in the next stage of his career.
He said: “Danny and Nicky started out at Concord Rangers in the Essex Senior League.
“They took the club into the National League before moving up to Braintree in the Conference and then to Lincoln City before getting their chance at Huddersfield.
“I am starting out in a similar position at Bourne Town to what they were in at Concord and there is no reason why this club can’t progress.
“It presents a real big challenge because it isn’t an easy job by any stretch of the imagination.
“But I’m a winner so I’ll be looking at the top end and pushing on to try and take the club forward because it’s a fantastic football club.
“I have learned from the managers I’ve played under and intend to mix together all the good parts while putting my own stamp on things.
“It’s going to be run professionally and we will get it right over time. I’m really excited for the people of Bourne, the supporters and the hard-working committee.
“It’s a new chapter in the club’s history and one that everybody can look forward to.”
Arnold revealed he had turned down a coaching opportunity with Northern Premier League side Gainsborough Trinity to join the Wakes after spending last season with Bourne’s league rivals Melton Town.
He has already started putting his plans into place for the new campaign which starts on Saturday, September 5, with a trip to Sileby Rangers.
Former Lincoln City youngster Danny Horton has been unveiled as the first signing of the Arnold and Daws era with more set to follow.
Arnold added: “I was very grateful to Curtis Woodhouse at Gainsborough for offering me the chance to join his coaching team.
“They are at a higher level and a club right on my doorstep so it was an attractive offer, but I wanted the challenge and I’ve been backed by the board at Bourne who have been fantastic because they have matched my ambitions.
“We are little bit behind other teams in terms of preparations, but we need to make ourselves really solid and then, going forward, that’s when we can add and implement bits to it to get to where we need to be.
“I’ve known Danny (Horton) a long time and I’ve kept track on his career since he left Lincoln. He’s a great signing for us and there will be more to follow.
“I want to play high intensity football with high energy and I want to get enthusiastic players.
“I want to excite the fans and myself and Simon want to be excited by what we see.”
Bourne face Pinchbeck United on Saturday in the third and fourth place play-off match in the Lincolnshire Free Press Trophy.
The match at the Sir Halley Stewart ground in Spalding kicks-off at 3pm.
