Stamford Bels suffer their first defeat of the Peterborough League Division One season after losing at Warboys Town
Stamford Bels will be aiming to bounce back from their first defeat of the Peterborough League Division One campaign on Saturday.
Lewis Morley's men make the trip to face Rippingale & Folkingham looking for an instant return to winning ways after last weekend's 2-1 away defeat at Warboys.
A 30-yard strike from Dan Moulds condemned Bels to defeat last Saturday in a wind-affected clash which left the Stamford side frustrated after their first loss in seven league games.
They had started the game well but couldn't take advantage of their dominance.
Morley saw an overhead kick just fly past the post while Kieran Duffy-Weekes and Alfie Winters had shots well saved.
Bels continued to press hard on the Warboys goal but couldn’t break through with Duffy-Weekes seeing an audacious attempt from the halfway line just go over the bar.
Going in at the break goalless, Bels knew it was going to be a tough second half against the wind and were undone by a Warboys free-kick which was converted by Dan Short.
Bels kept pushing for an equaliser and saw a Josh Randall effort fly over the bar.
They did eventually get back on level terms when Morley was bought down in the area after a driving Scott Toomey run and Dave Atkinson made no mistake from the penalty spot.
But they were yet again undone with 14 minutes of the match remaining when Moulds' long distance strike nestled into the top corner.
Bels pushed again but were unable to equalise for a second time as Warboys finished the match with 10 men following the injury-time dismissal of Jake Thornton.
Player-boss Morley said: "It was a very frustrating game.
"Warboys played the conditions superbly. They defended well against the wind by not allowing us to break through and then attacked well with the wind.
"It was an off game for us and we need to be back to our best this week against Rippingale.
"We did well to get back into the game and not let our heads drop but were undone by a wonder strike.
"The Warboys keeper was superb but we didn't make the most of our chances which is very unlike us. We aim to put it right again on Saturday."
