Bourne Town U12 Girls get back on track with big victory
Bournes Town Under-12 Girls’ narrow defeat away to league title favourites Bluntisham was a tough result for the girls last time out but they bounced back with a 7-0 defeat of Chatteris at home at the weekend.
Bourne took an early lead when a cross from the right wing found Olivia Smith at the far post and she calmly tapped in for the opener. Chatteris were finding it hard to create any chances as Bourne controlled possession on a churned up pitch.
Continued pressure led to Bourne’s first penalty of the season when a Chatteris defender handled the ball in the penalty box.
Lucy Burney drilled the spot kick low and hard but it was very well saved by the keeper who stood her ground.
However it didn’t take long for Bourne Town to extend their lead when Taylor Dean’s long-range drive could only be parried by the keeper and Libby Friel was on hand to follow up and convert the rebound.
Bourne’s third and fourth goals came in quick succession and both from some great wing play and crosses by Taylor Dean. Libby Friel controlled well in the box from Taylor’s cross to score the third and Eleanor Smith secured Bourne’s fourth with a tap in at the far post. These were hard times for Chatteris who had battled well but were unable to get a foothold.
Bourne pushed home their advantage during the start of the second half and played some excellent pass and move football. However, Chatteris almost got on the scoresheet when their striker raced through the midfield but she took one touch too much which allowed Molly Bull to smother the ball.
Olivia Scane made it 5-0 when she was put through by Lucy Burney and hit a curling shot into the top left of corner of the goal. This was soon followed by Libby Friel’s hat-trick goal when she cut inside from the left and fired a low shot into the net. Eleanor Smith made it a magnificent seventh after a sharp passing move out of defence that beat the Chatteris midfield.
Star player was awarded to Eleanor Smith for her industrious work in midfield that was capped off with a couple of goals. Bourne move up to second in the table and now have a 2 week break until their next fixture away to Estover Park.
