Brockbank double gets Ketton back on track

Ketton’s push for promotion continues thanks to an Alex Brockbank brace to claim all three points in their UCL Division One clash on Saturday.

Ketton put their poor performance in the Leicestershire FA intermediate trophy semi-final behind them with a 2-0 victory over King’s Cliffe.

The Rutland village side are in third place in the league, just one point behind AFC Stanground in second.

In the PDFL Premier Coates Athletic sit top of the division, with the club’s reserve side clear by 14 points, albeit having played three more games than their nearest rivals.

With the top league places getting automatic promotion places the race is on.

Despite missing half a dozen first team regulars including: Ashley Clipston, Alex Collyer, Ben Waldron, Matt Woodman, and goalkeeper Dan Swann. Ketton were back to their sharper selves and Brockbank provided the cutting edge.

The striker opened the scoring with a free kick before adding to his highlight reel with an impressive second.

Brockbank ran onto a through ball from Jack Speechley, showed composure to take a touch and then blast the ball beyond the keeper into the top corner from 18 yards out.

King’s Cliffe didn’t give up and kept the pressure on the visitors on their home ground and even had a chance to get back into the match when they won a penalty when Johnny Holmes handled the ball in the box. It was a chance for stand-in keeper Ricky Dent to be a hero and he didn’t disappoint, saving Carl Burrows’ first strike before stopping the rebound as well to keep his clean sheet.
