Reaction from Stamford AFC manager Graham Drury after their draw with Spalding United
Stamford boss Graham Drury was left to rue his side missing some crucial gilt-edged chances as they were pegged back by a late leveller in their Boxing Day derby with Spalding United.
The Daniels had made a strong start to the Southern League Premier Division clash and deservedly led through Rob Morgan's penalty.
However, they were unable to add a vital second goal with Morgan seeing another penalty after the break being saved by Spalding goalkeeper Tony Breeden who also made another couple of important stops to keep Stamford at bay.
Drury said: "It was a really hard-fought point for both teams in the end. We both went hammer and tong at it.
"We had the better chances in the game and I felt we should have scored again in the first half.
"The second penalty might have been harsh but you've got to stick those away in local derbies.
"Fair play to Morgs because he stood up to take it and, after scoring the first one, he got us a point on the board."
The draw means Stamford remain one point and one place outside the play-off spots with Drury looking for his side to be more clinical in close contests this season.
He added: "We're not scoring enough goals this season from all over the pitch like my sides usually do.
"We haven't had goals from all over the pitch this year.
"We did create chances against a Spalding side who have been in great form and we knew it would be a tough task.
"I just felt that we edged the better chances and, in derbies, you've got to take them, especially the gilt-edged ones.
"Our goal difference this season is only plus two which, for this stage of the season, is usually 18 or 20 and I'm afraid we're not at that.
"We have created the chances but we need to be a lot more clinical."
Stamford now travel to Stourbridge on Saturday to face a Glassboys side who are just one point and one place below the Daniels in the league table.
Drury commented: "Stourbridge are a side that we know well.
"They've got good rotations in their midfield but we were resilient in the first game this season against them and got the 1-0 win.
"It's a tough place to go but we've got to roll our sleeves up, dust ourselves down and hopefully get something from that game as well."
Stamford are also on their travels on New Year's Day as they visit Biggleswade Town.
