Stamford AFC manager Graham Drury praises Halesowen Town supporters
Stamford manager Graham Drury praised a 'touch of class' from visiting Halesowen Town supporters after Saturday's match at the Zeeco Stadium.
But, on the terraces, a visiting fan came bearing gifts to the Stamford manager with an early Christmas present.
Drury explained: "I've got so much respect for Halesowen and one of their fans came to the game and bought me a Christmas present.
"He said it was for everything that I do in football with my charity work and how I try to drive other people on.
"I thought it was such a touch of class from a group of fans who had a title pinched from them last season and, even after being beaten on Saturday, they still did that.
"I can't thank them enough and it means the absolute world to me. It means as much as the result because it just shows that, as long as you're a good person and try to do the right things, it can be credited.
"Halesowen have done that and I can't thank them enough for it."
Drury was also full of praise for the ground-staff and volunteers who helped get the game on despite the heavy rain which wiped out a number of non-league fixtures on Saturday.
A crowd of more than 430 also turned out despite the elements to help cheer Stamford to a vital victory.
The Daniels boss added: "All credit to the ground staff and the volunteers because they've come up and worked really hard to get a game of football on when many haven't.
"The boys have also turned up and put in a performance for the fans and both sets of supporters really made for a great atmosphere.
"We want more of that and I think the lads deserve it."
Stamford are just a point outside the play-off places ahead of next weekend's away match at Berkhamsted.
