Stamford AFC draw with Spalding United in the Southern League Premier Division Central

The derby honours finished even at the Zeeco Stadium on Boxing Day as Spalding struck a late equaliser to share the spoils with Stamford.

Bart Cybulski netted for the fourth game in a row to secure a late share of the spoils for the Tulips after Stamford had taken a first half lead through Rob Morgan.

The Stamford skipper also saw a second half spot kick saved by Spalding goalkeeper Tony Breeden as the Daniels created the better chances in a close contest.

Stamford made three changes to their starting line-up following the weekend win at Hitchin with Charlie Marzano, Billy Bennett and Tendai Chitiza coming in for Connor Bartle, James Blunden and Tobias Liversidge.

Spalding had held league leaders Kettering last Saturday and their changes saw Dan Lawlor return for Lamine Sherif while Lewis Hilliard came in for Khanya Leshabela.

Stamford started the brighter of the two teams in a lively first half with the Daniels coming close to breaking the deadlock inside the first 20 seconds when Jack Duffy latched onto a clearance from Ashton Offler but prodded his shot wide of the Spalding goal.

The home faithful didn't have to wait much longer for the opening goal to go Stamford as they struck first in the ninth minute.

Darnell Johnson was penalised after grappling with Offler at a corner and Morgan stepped up to score from the resultant spot kick.

Visiting goalkeeper Tony Breeden made a solid save to deny Lee Shaw as Stamford looked to make the most of their early supremacy.

Spalding then started to come into the contest and Jordon Cooke produced qa superb headed clearance to thwart Bart Cybulski while Kieron Freeman hit a sweet strike just wide of the Stamford goal.

Cybulski then got the better of Offler but no-one was able to turn home his pull-back with Lewis Hilliard's follow-up being saved by Stamford goalkeeper Tom Jackson.

Spalding's best chance of the first half fell to Johnson but he was able to convert at the back post from Freeman's corner while Cooke was again well-placed to block a drive from Connor Brown.

Stamford came close to extending their lead but Breeden produced a superb save to deny Offler while Joe Nyahwema flashed a shot over for the Tulips who trailed at the break.

Breeden was again called into action at the start of the second half as he scrambled clear on the edge of his box as Lee Shaw looked to latch onto a through ball.

Stamford then had two huge chances to put the game beyond Spalding as they were awarded a 58th penalty following a hand-ball by Cybulski.

However, Morgan was unable to get the better from the spot for a second time as the Spalding goalkeeper went the right way to deny the Stamford skipper.

Morgan looked to make amends with a driving run before playing in Chitiza who blazed over with the goal at his mercy.

Spalding made two double substitutions in a bid to get back onto level terms and Sam Cartwright saw a late effort blocked after a goalmouth scramble.

The Tulips continued to push for a leveller and it arrived in the 90th minute when Cybulski headed home a near post set piece to ensure a point for the visitors.
