Stamford Rugby Club beat Newbold-on-Avon in Counties 1 Midlands East (South)

Stamford asserted their dominance in emphatic fashion on Saturday as they dismantled Newbold-on-Avon to extend their lead at the top of the Counties 1 Midlands East (South) table to 12 points.

This was a performance of unyielding power, clinical execution and defensive brilliance as the visitors handed Newbold their first home defeat of the season after a 35-0 success at Parkfield Road.

The game began with Stamford imposing themselves early.

A charge-down led to Cox’s opening try which was converted by the flawless Frazer Hutton.

Stamford's forwards drove relentlessly for a second score and a scintillating move saw their winger touch down just before half-time with Hutton adding the extras for a 14-0 lead.

The game turned decisively in the moments after the break.

A Newbold player was yellow-carded on 40 minutes and Stamford seized their opportunity.

Their dominant pack mauled their way over for a pushover try, extending the lead with another pinpoint Hutton conversion.

Newbold fought valiantly, battering the Stamford defence with wave after wave of attacks, but the visitors held firm.

A disallowed Newbold try for a forward pass typified their frustrations on a day when nothing seemed to go their way.

Stamford's discipline and cohesion never wavered, ensuring their clean sheet remained intact.

This was a statement of intent from Stamford—a perfect blend of physicality, composure and precision that reinforced their claim as the league's stand-out side.

For Newbold, there was pride in their effort but Stamford left no doubt as to why they are poised for glory.

There is now a break from action over the festive period with Stamford's next match at home to Stewart and Lloyds on Saturday, January 4.
