A team from the Stamford and Rutland Table Tennis League retain the Butcher Cup at Lincolnshire's inter-town competition

A team from the Stamford and Rutland League retained their title after Lincolnshire's inter-town table tennis competitions took place over four weekends in Lincoln.

They entered four teams involving 15 players and achieved some success across the age groups against many of the best players in the county.

Having travelled to Grimsby last year to win the Butcher Cup - primarily for junior players - in 2024, two of the team from that success were keen to retain the trophy.

The winning Butcher Cup team from the Stamford and Rutland League with manager Steve Williams are Ramone Vara, Jothen Parker and Chase Burgess.

Chase Burgess (Langtoft) and Jothen Parker (Bourne A) were joined this year by Ramone Vara of Uffington Archway.

On paper they were considered favourites and, on the table, they proved worthy of that label.

They defeated all the opposing teams from Boston, Lincoln, Grimsby and Scunthorpe by the maximum 6-0 margin.

Encouraged by team manager Steve Williams, the trio enjoyed a successful Sunday at the Crusaders Club.
