Stamford AFC beat Barwell in the Southern League Premier Division Central
A fantastic first half performance helped fire Stamford back to the top of the table on Tuesday night.
The Daniels recorded a 3-1 home win over Barwell to bounce back from Saturday's first loss in the Southern League Premier Division Central and regain pole position.
Three goals in the opening 36 minutes laid the foundations for the victory after a strong first half performance.
Jack Duffy's early opener set Stamford on their way ahead of a Tobias Liversidge penalty before Duffy added his second and the Daniels' third nine minutes before the break.
Stamford made just one change to their starting line-up from Saturday's defeat at Banbury with Will Glennon coming in for Ollie Clark.
Former Daniels player Ollie Brown-Hill lined up against his former club along with former Reading, Bristol City and Middlesbrough striker Leroy Lita who led the Barwell attack.
Lita forced an early free-kick on the edge of the Stamford penalty area but Brady Hickey's effort was easily gathered by Tom Jackson in the home goal.
The Daniels then took a fifth minute lead when Duffy swept home a low cross from skipper Rob Morgan to spark a period of dominance from the home side.
Duffy's cross after a strong burst just evaded Tendai Chitiza who then shot over from the edge of the area.
Stamford continued to rain efforts at the Barwell goal and doubled their lead just before the half-hour mark.
Charlie Marzano had played in Chitiza with an inch-perfect pass but his effort was superbly saved by Will Highland in the Barwell goal.
The rebound broke to Liversidge and he was sent tumbling in the box before picking himself up to clinically dispatch the resultant spot kick.
Joe Burgess brought a fine save out of Highland with a well-struck shot with James Blunden heading just over from the resultant corner.
The third Stamford goal then arrived in the 36th minute as Duffy drilled an emphatic finish into the far corner of the Barwell net.
Deen Master had the visitors' best two chances of the opening period but he dragged one decent opening wide before being crowded out on the stroke of half-time to prevent him getting his shot away to ensure Stamford took a clean sheet into the break.
However, it took Barwell only four minutes of the second period to breach the Daniels' reaguard with a smart turn and finish from Lita who had started the move with a clever dummy.
Stamford responded well and Liversidge fired just over with a swift shot on the turn from Morgan's cross before Lita converted from close range for Barwell but his effort was disallowed for offside.
Daniels custodian Jackson then produced a vital block to deny Master with Kieron Berry putting the rebound wide.
Liversidge came close to adding a fourth but he was denied at point blank range by a superb save from Highland.
Stamford continued to look to add to their tally but their excellent first half performance had proved enough to secure the win.
