Peterborough United Women play Durham in the Women's FA Cup at Bourne's Town JJ Mac Stadium

FA Cup fever will be gripping Bourne Town's JJ Mac Stadium on Sunday when Peterborough United Women look to cause an upset in one of the biggest games in their history

The Posh ladies side are hosting Durham Women in a third round tie which kicks off at the Abbey Lawn at 1pm.

The hosts play two tiers below Durham in the ladies' football pyramid with their visitors currently ninth in the Women's Championship.

Posh are seventh in the Women's National League Division One Midlands and defender Evie Driscoll-King is excited about the prospect of facing a higher-tier team and showcasing Posh's quality in front of what us expected to be a large crowd at the Abbey Lawn.

She said: "Im very excited to face Durham on Sunday and have been counting down the days since we were drawn against them

"I think it’ll be a great opportunity for us to show what we can do as a team against a team higher up than us. It’s a chance for us to challenge a championship side and put in a good performance.

"As a player, it’s great to be able to perform on such a big stage against a top team, it’s a massive opportunity to learn and improve from the occasion to develop as a player, but also showcase your ability to hopefully a big crowd on the day.”

Supporters can attend Sunday's cup clash for free thanks to the continued support of Posh's front-of-shirt sponsor, The Urban Penguin.

A similar initiative was used earlier season when Posh attracted a crowd of 376 to the JJ Mac Stadium for their match against Doncaster Rovers Belles.

All supporters have to do is say “The Urban Penguin sent me” at the turnstile and they will be admitted for free to watch the game.

Andrew Mallett, from The Urban Penguin, explained: "Posh Women reaching the third round of the FA Cup is absolutely amazing and we want to share this occasion with as many people across the local area, so it was a no-brainer to bring the initiative back for this game.

"We want as much support as possible for the Posh Women against a strong Durham side, who are a Championship team with real history in the women's game. If this does not get you into supporting local football, then nothing will."

Posh Women general manager Bobby Copping added: "We are extremely grateful to The Urban Penguin for working with us on this initiative.

"We are offering a unique opportunity for football fans to watch a third round FA Cup game for free.

"I believe this further demonstrates our commitment to building our fanbase through innovative strategies. We need everyone’s support and I hope everyone enjoys the game."

Posh Women go into the match after being knocked out of the FA Women's National League Plate on Sunday.

A depleted side were beaten 4-0 by Stourbridge Women at the JJ Mac Stadium as the visitors scored three times in the second half after taking a one-goal advantage into the break.
